Look around … see any overweight person? Unfortunately, yes.
According to statistics, more than half of the population (53%) suffers
from overweight or obesity.
This is a growing problem that will overwhelm the health system. The
numerous health problems and chronic diseases related to overweight and
obesity are associated with already very significant costs. The costs of
medical treatment can be up to twice or three times what is usual, so
you can see that it is vital to lose weight if you are overweight.
A person who has 40% more weight, are twice as likely to die
prematurely, that a person of normal weight. This reality has to do with
the fact that obesity creates conditions favorable to the development
of several diseases, including:
- Heart disease and stroke;
- High blood pressure (hypertension);
- Diabetes type II;
- Cancer;
- Gallbladder disease or gallstones;
- Osteoarthritis;
- Respiratory problems such as sleep apnea and asthma.
It is agreed by consensus that a person with 20% overweight, can significantly benefit from losing weight.
There are factors that trigger obesity, modifiable, such as poor
eating habits and sedentary lifestyle, and non-modifiable factors, such
as a child being born ever likely to be obese. In this case, despite the
factor is not modifiable, can and must act always with healthy
lifestyles, to avoid reaching morbid obesity in adulthood.
The best way to prevent obesity is to act in the expectant mother.
The mother should have a healthy weight before pregnancy and maintain
the normal weight during the entire pregnancy, in accordance with the
normal evolution of pregnancy, a healthy weight. If the mother is obese,
the likelihood of the child is born with a propensity to be obese and
therefore have diseases associated with excess weight is high, such as
diabetes.
Obesity Health Problems
Thus, we are facing a public health problem, in which the ideal is to
act as soon as possible. Only then can we eradicate this disease,
