What is and how to deal with this desire?
Sugar is a natural component of our diet. There are many types of sugar, the most common: fructose (fruit sugar), lactose (milk sugar), maltose (malt sugar), dextrose (glucose) and sucrose
(normal sugar). Additionally, there is a significant amount of sugar
based products that are used as artificial sweeteners. Do not forget
that honey, cane syrup or invert sugar are also ways to eat less sugar.
Our diet
provides us with different types of sugars that are an integral part of
food such as fructose in fruit and lactose in milk. We also use sugar,
adding it to food. This addition is done either by the food industry for
by us, when we make meals or simply spray the food. Sugar is a good
source of energy. It has, however, a downside: the sugar that is not
processed into energy is housed in cells in the form of fat.
How the sugar does reach the cells?
Glucose is the main source of energy in our body. It derives from the
foods we eat. It is extremely important to keep glucose levels within
normal parameters, since, over time, excess glucose or missing can
affect your health.
Shortly after eating a food, the glucose is separated from other
nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, proteins, etc… These
nutrients are transported through the blood to cells. Once glucose
levels rise, the pancreas receives a signal to release insulin, a
hormone that directs glucose to the cells. Once inside the cell, glucose
is converted into energy or stored for future use.
When glucose reaches normal values in the bloodstream, the pancreas
reduces the production of insulin. In healthy people, the process of
regulating insulin works without problems. Being able to control the
amount of sugar that you ingest is one way to start losing weight.
